Define an affordable budget
Subtract essential expenses, savings, and an emergency reserve first. Only then identify an entertainment amount that can be lost in full.
Do not base the limit on an expected win. It should remain the same regardless of previous outcomes.
Four separate limits
- maximum amount per session;
- maximum session duration;
- frequency per week or month;
- a clear condition for stopping immediately.

Make the limit measurable
A goal such as ‘play less’ is too vague. Record the exact amount and time, set a timer, and make it difficult to increase the budget quickly.
Do not revise a limit during a session. Consider changes only after a meaningful break, when there is no urge to recover losses.
Control tools
- a timer and end reminder;
- a separate card limit;
- a calendar of gaming-free days;
- a record of actual spending.
Review behaviour, not the amount
If limits are repeatedly broken, raising them does not solve the problem. It is a signal to take a longer break or stop completely.
Seek support if gaming affects debt, relationships, work, sleep, or creates a need to hide spending.
